Musk Sought Zuckerberg’s Support for OpenAI Bid Amid Legal Dispute
Elon Musk approached Mark Zuckerberg to explore financing options for a potential acquisition of OpenAI, according to court documents. The ChatGPT Maker disclosed Musk's outreach to the Meta CEO as part of his $97.4 billion unsolicited bid, which ultimately failed to materialize.
The revelation comes amid an escalating legal battle between Musk and his former AI venture. OpenAI's board formally rejected the takeover attempt in February, while Musk continues challenging the company's transition to a for-profit model through multiple lawsuits.
Neither Zuckerberg nor Meta participated in the proposed deal, leaving Musk's ambitious bid without key financial backing. The Tesla billionaire co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015 before launching competing AI startup xAI.
